Before we begin, it's worth noting that Rota & Time Clock doesn't sell hardware and we do not have any partnerships with tablet manufacturers or suppliers. You're free to choose whichever device works best for your business.
General recommendations
Rota & Time Clock fixed terminals can be set up on a range of tablets and devices.
When choosing a tablet, we recommend:
Avoiding the cheapest models available
Choosing a relatively recent device (ideally less than 3 years old)
Sticking with well-known brands such as Apple or Samsung
Making sure the device has access to the Apple App Store or Google Play Store
Choosing a device with a built-in kiosk mode if possible, so you can lock it to the Time Clock app
The app itself doesn't require a particularly powerful device, but a reliable tablet will generally provide a better experience.
Recommended iPads
Any iPad that supports the required iOS version should work.
At the time of writing, iOS 13.4 or later is required, with iOS 14 or newer recommended.
Examples include:
iPad (2023)
iPad Air 4
iPad Mini 5
iPad Mini 6
Other iPad models may also work as long as they support the required iOS version.
iPad wall mounts and stands
There are lots of options available, so the best choice depends on your setup.
Some customers have had good experiences with Pyle wall mounts and tablet stands.
When choosing a mount, make sure:
The tablet can be securely locked into place
The Home button remains accessible if needed
The front-facing camera isn't covered
Recommended Android tablets
Any Android tablet that supports the required Android version should work.
Android 6 or later is required, although Android 10 or newer is recommended.
A popular choice is the Samsung Galaxy Tab range, including models such as:
Samsung Galaxy Tab S8
Other Samsung Galaxy Tab models
It's always worth checking that the device is compatible with the Google Play Store and can install the Rota & Time Clock app.
Android wall mounts and stands
As with iPads, there are plenty of options available depending on your workspace.
Some customers have reported good results with TabCare wall mounts.
When selecting a mount, we recommend:
Choosing one that securely locks the tablet in place
Making sure any buttons remain accessible
Ensuring the front-facing camera is not blocked
Note: We don't have any partnerships with tablet manufacturers or suppliers. The choice is entirely yours.
Our recommendation
If you're buying a device specifically for a fixed terminal, a recent Samsung Galaxy Tab or iPad is usually a safe choice. They tend to be reliable, easy to manage, and support the features needed for day-to-day clocking in and out.
