If you're not receiving notifications from the Rota & Time Clock mobile app on your Samsung mobile, your phone may be restricting the app from running in the background to save battery.
The steps below apply to most Samsung devices running recent versions of Android, if you're struggling though, this website may be useful.
Step 1: Make sure notifications are enabled
Open Settings
Tap Notifications > App notifications (or Apps > Rota & Time Clock > Notifications)
Select Rota & Time Clock
Make sure Allow notifications is turned On.
Step 2: Disable battery restrictions
Samsung's battery optimisation can prevent apps from delivering notifications reliably.
Open Settings
Tap Apps
Select Rota & Time Clock
Tap Battery
Choose Unrestricted.
This allows the app to run in the background and deliver notifications promptly.
Step 3: Check background battery settings
If you're still not receiving notifications:
Open Settings
Go to Battery and device care > Battery
Tap Background usage limits
Check that Rota & Time Clock is not listed under:
Sleeping apps
Deep sleeping apps
If it is, remove it from the list.
Step 4: Disable adaptive battery (optional)
If notifications are still delayed:
Open Settings
Go to Battery and device care > Battery > Background usage limits (or More battery settings, depending on your device)
If available, turn Adaptive Battery off, or make sure it isn't limiting the Rota & Time Clock app.
Step 5: Check power saving mode
When Power saving mode is enabled, Android may delay or suppress notifications.
Open Settings
Go to Battery and device care > Battery
If Power saving mode is enabled, try turning it off and check whether notifications resume.
Still not receiving notifications?
If you've completed the steps above and notifications still aren't arriving:
Make sure you're signed in to the correct Rota & Time Clock account
Check that your organisation has enabled the notifications you're expecting
Ensure your phone has a stable internet connection (Wi-Fi or mobile data)
Restart your phone after changing the settings, as this can help apply the changes
Tip: Samsung regularly updates its settings menus, so the exact wording may differ slightly between devices and Android versions. The key is to ensure that notifications are enabled, battery restrictions are removed, and the app is allowed to run in the background.
