Rota & Time Clock gives you several ways for employees to clock in and out, so you can choose the option that best fits the way your business operates.
Whether your team works from a single location, travels between sites or works remotely, there's a clocking method to suit your setup.
Fixed Terminal Clocking
A fixed terminal allows employees to clock in and out using their own PIN.
This is a great option for workplaces where employees start and finish their shifts from the same location.
Employees simply enter their PIN on a shared device to record their attendance.
You can set up a fixed terminal using:
A web browser on a computer
The Rota & Time Clock app on a tablet or mobile device
Mobile app clocking
Employees can clock in and out using the Rota & Time Clock mobile app.
The clocking button can be found on the Overview screen within the app.
If location restrictions are enabled, employees must be within the approved area before they can clock in.
Location information is only captured at the moment of clocking. The app does not track employees before or after they clock in.
This option is ideal for:
Mobile workers
Employees working across multiple sites
Teams that don't start their shifts from a central location
Computer clocking
Employees can also clock in and out directly from their online Rota & Time Clock account using a web browser.
You can choose to:
Allow clocking from any internet connection
Restrict clocking to approved company networks
This option works well for office-based and remote employees who regularly use a computer during their working day.
Manual time entries
If preferred, employees can manually enter their working hours instead of clocking in and out.
Manual time entries can be submitted through both the web app and mobile app.
This can be useful when:
Employees forget to clock in or out
Clocking isn't required for certain roles
Working hours need to be entered after the fact
Managers can then review and approve these entries through the Attendance section.
Which option should I choose?
Clocking method | Best for |
Fixed terminal | Teams working from a single location |
Mobile app | Mobile employees and field workers |
Computer clocking | Office-based and remote teams |
Manual time entries | Occasional adjustments or non-clocking environments |
Many organisations use a combination to suit different teams and working arrangements.
