Setting an away message

How to set an away message on Messenger to let your team know when you're out of the office, in a meeting or on holiday.

If you're going to be out of the office for a period of time, you can set up an away message to let colleagues know when you'll be unavailable and who they should contact while you're away.

Set up your away message

Where to find it

  1. Click your initials or profile picture in the top-right corner of the screen

  2. Select Away message

A window will open where you can customise your message.

You'll be able to:

  1. Turn the away message on or off

  2. Choose the dates when the message should be active

  3. Enter your away message

  4. Select a colleague as your stand-in contact

  5. Click Save.

Scheduled away message

Once saved, you'll see 'Scheduled' next to the away message option.

This means everything is set up and ready to go - your message will turn on automatically on the date you entered.

When your away message is active

When your away message is active for the current day, a purple moon icon will appear on your profile badge. This confirms that your away message is currently enabled.

What colleagues will see

When someone views your profile while your away message is active, they'll see your message along with the stand-in contact you've selected.
